What is BREATHE?

BREATHE is a domestic demand side response project that aims to locally balance energy supply and demand. New build homes which already have solar panels and air source heat pumps are being provided with a smart battery and control system. The smart control system is gathering data to build an understanding of household energy demand profiles. This, along with grid electricity pricing, carbon intensity and grid constraints, is being used to form the basis of a demand side response commercial model which will benefit residents, the national grid and the wider low-carbon community.

The project is currently working with a group of homes in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
